‘Subtle Shifts’ are four pieces from the ‘Spectrum/Harmony’ seriesthat, unlike my usual method of making, were all built simultaneously in parallel with one another. Each piece boasts a distinctive build, yet they coalesce under a thematic style and colouring technique, creating a visually cohesive collection. Delve into the subtle nuances of form, appreciating the visual diversity within this harmonious grouping.

Employing oxide washes, I imparted rustic colouring, strategically revealing parts of the body to emulate an aged surface. This technique echoes the impact of continuous touch, gradually shedding and eroding the outer layer, bringing forth the underlying ground to the surface—a testament to the transformative effects of tactile engagement with each piece.

The series ‘Spectrum / Harmony’ is a collection of 20+ pots that highlight the subtle differences that appear on the outside even when the material, composition and artist stay the same. In this series, each pot uses a similar starting structure but small changes in build phase give them varied forms. When seen together as a series, you take away the feeling of a family or a common theme binding the pots together, while still appreciating the nuanced differences in form, colour, texture and touch. Through this series, I want to create a shared sense of our innate human-ness with you, and invite you to embrace this harmonious variation.
