‘Metamorphosis’ is a distinctive standalone piece in the ‘Spectrum/Harmony’ series. Across its surface, subtle variations in bulge creation create an intriguingly warped belly, echoing a theme I’ve explored in prior pieces of emotions attempting to reach the surface and where even minor form adjustments yield significant visual diversity. The colouring process involved meticulous oxide spraying and kiln reduction, culminating in a truly unique hue. The glaze, a silent collaborator, shapes the pot’s identity, almost as if the vessel itself dictates how it wishes to be perceived, adding an enigmatic touch to its individuality.

The series ‘Spectrum / Harmony’ is a collection of 20+ pots that highlight the subtle differences that appear on the outside even when the material, composition and artist stay the same. In this series, each pot uses a similar starting structure but small changes in build phase give them varied forms. When seen together as a series, you take away the feeling of a family or a common theme binding the pots together, while still appreciating the nuanced differences in form, colour, texture and touch. Through this series, I want to create a shared sense of our innate human-ness with you, and invite you to embrace this harmonious variation.
