The clay effortlessly flows through my hands on the wheel, guided by intuition. Altering it adds a touch of logic. Moving away from the wheel’s symmetry, I manipulate forms into geometric shapes, blending sharp angles into a soft, rounded base finishing with a foot ring. The resulting facets lend themselves to the ceramic being held.

Surrounded by a dense forest of coniferous Pine trees, Dharamkot studio is sustained through the harsh winter each year by the natural generosity of these trees, providing a continuous and abundant supply of firewood. With each fire that provides warming sustenance for those winter months, there is the inevitable and every growing collection of ash. Each of the Raging Pine Tea Bowls are painted with ash using a goats hair brush to accentuate the movements of soft strokes mimicking flame and smoke patterns. The intuitive strokes give a slight texture to the outside of the bowls whilst the inside remains an off white stoneware. The natural pine ash gives varying results but always reflects the land that it was made in.

Keep a small piece of the mountains with you in the form of this tea bowl.

The tea bowl is ideal for quiet moments of a tea ceremony in the sombre months of introspection. It can be used to serve any hot beverages or small snacks.
