The clay effortlessly flows through my hands on the wheel, guided by intuition. Altering it adds a touch of logic. Moving away from the wheel’s symmetry, I manipulate forms into geometric shapes, blending sharp angles into a soft, rounded base finishing with a foot ring. The resulting facets lend themselves to the ceramic being held.

Each bowl has been adorned with a tenmoku glaze that emulates the bleak and often harsh winter season in Dharamkot. During this season the mountains and hostile rocky outcrops take on dark rich hues, coated by rain, snow or ice; through the tenmoku glaze on the Phoenix Tea Bowl we see this glossy dark mountainous surface reflected back at us.

The tea bowl is ideal for quiet moments of a tea ceremony in the sombre months of introspection. It can be used to serve any hot beverages or small snacks.
