‘Molding Progressions Series’, No.2
₹5,000.00
For ‘Molding Progressions No.2’, I chose terracotta to hand build this specific work to develop the variation and spectrum of colours. During the construction, a distinctive technique emerged—I purposely refrained from merging coils, leaving small window-like gaps. This not only introduces visual diversity but also imparts a lighter weight to the pot. This departure from my customary practice places the construction process at the forefront of visual appreciation, deviating from the usual assimilation of the clay coils into the body of the piece. In doing this alternative method, it invites the viewer to study the meticulous construction process and meditate on the hours spent behind each series.
Employing the traditional black firing technique, a method deeply rooted in the region of Himachal Pradesh where Dharamkot Studio resides, this piece undergoes a transformative colouring process. The outcome is a distinctive smoky texture and a captivating interplay of charcoal tones against the terracotta base. This technique not only pays homage to the local artistic heritage but also bestows upon the piece a unique and evocative visual character.
‘Molding Progressions’ is an exploratory series filled with lots of experiments, trials and happy accidents. This particular series helped me discover and refine my style and a catalyst for my artistic expression captured in my other works as part of the two following series, ‘Emanation’ and ‘Harmony / Spectrum’. Each piece highlighted in ‘Molding Progressions’ has a character of its own, and a story to tell of moments of elation and anguish at every new discovery during this phase.
