Kurinuki is the japanese word for ‘carved out’, it is a more sculptural approach to making the piece organically textured. Here the artist has thrown the vase and then applied the philosophy of Kurinuki onto the exterior of the piece making alterations to its once smooth surface. Once bisque fired the piece is then glazed with a free flowing combination of blues, browns and greens that subtly blend between one another. This piece would work well as a distinctive centrepiece in any home.
