Hearth Light
₹9,000.00
Surrounded by the pinewoods and mountains, I was inspired to see what was possible when working in collaboration with nature.
Studio potters normally make ceramics in kilns, but the oldest method of firing pots is in a pit dug into the earth.
The endless possibilities of outcomes and the enticing idea that each piece is crafted by nature drove us to try this traditional technique.
In the pit fire, the flames give the characteristic smokey black. Organic materials combust and add the pink and purple tones. Each shade is a unique reflection of the natural environment in that moment, never to be recreated. Bringing this piece back to the element of fire that it was forged in, in the form of a light shade.
The form has been wheel thrown in grogged stoneware. It features sharp angles but an overall subtle form allowing the surface to take the centre stage.
It comes with a brass fixing to hang the light shade from the ceiling.
