Diwali
₹2,200.00
”Diwali”, as part of my “2-cup School Circular Series”, is especially personal to me. Inspired by events that transpired during my childhood over one particular Diwali,- the festival of lights-, I was motivated to make this piece with extra care and attention.
”Diwali”, a ceramic stoneware piece, was hand-built using the slab technique, and is crafted to imitate the paper circulars we received in school to be notified about holidays or events. The text wrapping around the inside of the cup represents the front of the circular that notifies students about Diwali vacation, and the outside represents an event that happened on that day that changed my being.
The scene depicts a house full of lights, and the entire neighbourhood celebrating Diwali with fireworks. The final image is of my mother who was diagnosed with a life-threatening illness on that day, getting into a photo frame. I’m watching her as the flame of my soul is extinguished..
This life-changing event is something that will forever be held in close connection with everything I create as an expression of that small vulnerable flame.
”Diwali” can be used as a cup, small vase or a pen stand. This series of small ceramic pots are multi-functional to suit all your decorative needs. This stoneware piece is decorated with under-glaze illustrations and then finished with a transparent glaze and fired to 1200 degrees.
